rockin’ out. there a few pedestrian bridges near osaka train station. you can frequently hear bands playing. part of the reason is to get exposure, part of the reason is that houses are relatively small and close together, so playing music with your band might not go over well with your neighbors.
frequently you will see a small group of fans sitting or standing by and listening to a band.

a lonely serenade. poor guy, nobody is paying attention to him.

the world is moving, but this taxi is standing still.

more taxis in the umeda part of osaka. this time everyone is standing still. how do they earn any money sitting around?

the taxis in japan are always squeaky clean.

from the pedestrian bridge looking down at the crowds. i think i captured some ghosts in this photo. do you see them?

he bought his girlfriend a belated birthday present. focusing on what he will say to her, the world has become a blur.

daredevils.

friday night, doing what you love. i see many people in japan standing in stores reading, but not buying magazines.

we don’t know you.

Beautiful photos. I love your descriptions too.
I don’t know what it is, but the most mundane scenes always look so much more interesting when they are in Japan. Street bands, taxis, convenience store magazines – none of these things interest me in NY. But in Japan, just about everything is part of the exciting everyday cultural adventure.
I really miss Japan..
I followed the link from a retweet by JCexplorer. I’m glad I did.
I agree with Travis on all points… especially the last…
I miss Japan!

thank you travis and matt! i’m glad you enjoy the photos!
i just recently (after being here for 15 months) realized that i need more “this is japan” photos for recollection when i’m no longer here. i need to get out and shoot more things like this.
if you need someone to go out and shoot something in particular, let me know. if i’m available i’d be happy to take some photos for you.
take care!
Wow, that’s quite the offer, I’ll have to think about it!
