the mail system in japan is just awesome.  i have had packages delivered to me by three different companies and they are all just as great.  even the federal system.

first of all they deliver until 9 pm.  yes that’s right, 9 pm!  the fantastic advantage of such late hours is that if you missed them when they came to deliver the package, say you were at work like i was, all hope is not lost.  just get your 再発達要付連絡先 or more simply put, your redelivery notice.

you can call the driver directly on his mobile, go to the PC website, visit the website specifically for your mobile, or call an automated system.  input your package ID and the time for redelivery.  which get this, can be the same day!  ha ha, that is so awesome.

i got home around seven o’clock, and called the driver to have my package redelivered.  he showed up within 30 minutes to deliver my package.  mind you that it didn’t cost me any extra.  besides, shipping is about the only thing in japan that is reasonably priced.

if you want, you can also arrange to have the package redelivered during a set 2 hour window on some other day.  also at no charge.  i love it.
